Empowering Teens Through Client-Centered & Emotion-Focused Support

A warm, collaborative space where adolescents feel heard, validated, and guided in understanding their emotions.

Adolescence is a time of profound change. Between academic pressure, social dynamics, and the search for identity, it is common for teens to feel overwhelmed or misunderstood.
I offer a non-judgmental, comfortable, and confidential space where teens can explore their thoughts and feelings. My approach is collaborative; I meet teens where they are, whether they prefer traditional talk therapy or expressive, creative ways to communicate.

Areas of Concern and Support:

Therapy can be a resource for teens navigating:
  • Academic & Future Pressure: Managing school-related stress, perfectionism, and burnout.
  • Identity & Self-Esteem: Exploring gender identity, sexual orientation, and “who am I?”
  • Mood Changes: Addressing persistent low mood, isolation, or self-harming thoughts.
  • Body Image: Navigating the complex relationship between self-worth and body image.
  • Digital Wellness: Managing the impact of social media, cyberbullying, and screen use.
  • Relational Conflicts: Navigating relationships with peers, friends, parents, teachers, or other adults in their lives.
  • Social Anxiety & School Refusal: Addressing the root causes of why a teen may be avoiding social interactions or refusing to attend school.

Therapeutic Approaches

I adapt my methods to suit the unique personality of each teen, utilizing:
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): Identifying and shifting unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Informed: Exploring the different “parts” of the self (e.g., the “inner critic” or the “perfectionist”).
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Skills: Teaching mindfulness, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation.
  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT): Focusing on psychological flexibility and living according to personal values.
  • Narrative Therapy: Helping teens separate themselves from their problems and “re-author” their life stories.
  • Polyvagal Theory Informed: Helping teens understand their nervous system’s “fight, flight, or freeze” responses.
  • Expressive Arts & Journaling: Using creative writing, music playlists, or digital art to externalize complex teenage emotions.

A Note on Confidentiality & Parents:

Trust is the foundation of therapy with teens. While I maintain a confidential space for teens to share openly, I strongly believe in the importance of the family system. I work with families to determine the best way to involve caregivers in the process while respecting the teen’s privacy and autonomy.
