Play Therapy and Counselling for Children, Teens, and Caregivers

Children sometimes express distress through behaviour, emotions, or difficulties at school or home.

When families feel overwhelmed or unsure how to help, therapy can provide a supportive place to understand what a child or teen is experiencing and how to move forward together.

I provide play therapy and counselling for children, teens, and caregivers in a safe, respectful, and collaborative environment.

Play Therapy for Children:

Play is a child’s natural language. Through play therapy, children can express feelings, process experiences, and develop emotional regulation and coping skills.

As a Certified Play Therapist through the Canadian Association for Play Therapy, I have completed extensive post-graduate training in child development, attachment, trauma, and therapeutic play techniques.

Play therapy can support children who are experiencing:

  • Anxiety or excessive worry
  • Difficulty navigating emotions
  • Behavioural challenges
  • Trauma or stressful experiences
  • Family changes such as separation or divorce
  • Social or school difficulties

What is Play Therapy?

Children often communicate through behaviour and play rather than words. Play therapy provides a safe, developmentally appropriate way for children to express emotions, process experiences, and build coping skills. Through carefully selected materials, children can explore feelings, build confidence, and strengthen emotional regulation.

Therapy for Teens:

The teen years can bring new challenges, pressures, and increasing independence. Adolescents may experience stress related to school, friendships, identity, and family relationships while navigating significant emotional changes.

Therapy provides a supportive and confidential space for teens to explore their thoughts and feelings and develop healthy coping strategies.

Therapy may support teens who are experiencing:

  • Anxiety or stress
  • Low mood or emotional overwhelm
  • Difficulty managing emotions
  • Peer or social challenges
  • School-related pressures
  • Family conflict or life transitions

Parent / Caregiver Support:

Supporting children is most effective when caregivers are involved. Therapy includes parent consultations to discuss progress, share insights, and explore practical strategies to support your child’s emotional development and behaviour.

Caregiver support may include:

  • Understanding your child’s emotional needs and behaviours
  • Supporting emotional regulation
  • Strengthening parent-child relationships
  • Navigating family transitions or challenges
  • Building confidence in responding to difficult situations

Working collaboratively helps create a supportive environment where children and teens can continue to grow outside of therapy sessions.
